About This Service
The FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is a federally mandated secure database that gives employers, carriers, and other authorized users real-time information about CDL driver drug and alcohol program violations.
**Mandatory Requirements (Effective January 6, 2020)** All motor carriers employing CDL drivers in safety-sensitive functions must:
- Register in the Clearinghouse as an employer
- Conduct a full query of the Clearinghouse before hiring any CDL driver
- Conduct limited annual queries of all current CDL drivers
- Report any violations to the Clearinghouse within 3 business days
**Who Must Register** Any motor carrier that employs CDL drivers or is required to comply with 49 CFR Part 382. This includes for-hire carriers, private carriers, and owner-operators. Failure to register and query the Clearinghouse is a regulatory violation.
**What's Included** Complete Clearinghouse employer account registration, designation of authorized users, and guided setup through the query process. The account will be configured and confirmed compliant upon delivery.
Operating without proper Clearinghouse registration may result in hiring a disqualified driver — creating significant liability and regulatory exposure.
